Specifying for African working roads
Suspension, tires, gearing, dust protection and parts planning that matter beyond brochure payload.
Start with the duty cycle, then confirm with the factory.
A cargo tricycle should be specified around the real route: legal payload, surface, gradients, daily distance, ambient temperature, fuel quality and the mechanics available locally. A larger engine does not correct an underspecified axle, braking system or suspension.
Ask suppliers for a complete, comparable specification and supporting documents. Confirm engine model, cooling, gear ratios, reverse, frame, rear axle, leaf springs, tires, brakes, cargo-bed dimensions, net weight and rated payload. Marketing claims and short-duration maximum loads are not the same as a legal rated load.
Before quotation, confirm import classification, conformity requirements, road registration and whether CBU, SKD or CKD changes duties or local assembly obligations. Final specifications should be written into the contract and inspection checklist.
